Fuzhou, the capital of the Fujian province in China. Not many people may have heard of this place, and if you would ask them where is this located, they probably can’t point it on a map. Fuzhou is just on the other side of the sea of Taiwan.
This is why if you have ever been to Taiwan you will see many similarities. Especially in food perspective Fuzhou shares its similarities. However, should you ignore this place because not many people have heard of it?
I don’t think you should. Fuzhou has a lot to offer. And while I will explore interesting around Fuzhou as well in a future video, for now we will focus on Fuzhou itself.
Fudao
The first stop that we made is Fudao. This place is brand new and opened less then a year ago. Some parts are still under construction, but knowing how fast Chinese can do their construction, it shouldn’t take too long before it is fully open.
However, this place is a hill just outside the city centre. A short bus ride will take you to the foot of the hill and from there you can take some easy stairs up the hill. There is an easy 19 km walking path along the ridge and it will give you some amazing views around the city.
West Lake
Yes, you don’t need to go to Hangzhou to visit a West Lake. West Lake Park in Fuzhou is tiny in comparison with the Hangzhou version, but that makes it as a park maybe prettier as well. It is more compact, so an ideal place for an afternoon stroll before going for some food shopping.
The park has been evacuated in 242 A.D. by Yan Gao during the Ying dynasty.
7 Lanes
The last visit we did was the area which is famous for its 7 lanes. The building are kept in its original state. So you have some good history that you can grab here. Be aware it contains a lot of tourist shops, however it is a very nice place to hang around. Be aware that at the end of the main street, there is a very nice canal area, which is ideal in the night with some little cafes and some live music. Also just opposite the main street is a night market. Prices are higher then at for example the student street area, but still nice to discover when you are around.
Other recommendations
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to cover everything during this trip. I still recommend you to visit the National Forest Park as well which is beautiful. But also visit the student street area, which contains an amazing night market.
