The Spanish Riviera is home to some of the country’s most beautiful stretches of coastline. So why should you forget about this. Because there is the English Riviera. Instead if you ever visit England visit Torquay. This is the place of the English Riviera.
Torquay is a resort town in Devon on the English channel. It has everything what you expect from a Riviera. Torquay Harbour offers for example shops, cafes, a marina and even a Ferris wheel. You won’t be the first visitor to this place, because it has already been a popular destination for English people since the Victorian Times.
You might not expect this but it even offers sandy beaches and palm trees. Both a rarity in England. The scene is set for a perfect Devon seaside holiday and short break. And why you are here why not do a walking tour as well with one of the great locals?
But here is where Torquay will shine. Not because of the standard seaside activities such as sealing, island hopping, visiting a beach or having seafood. No that is something you can also do in Spain. But because of Cockington.
Cockington is a village that you can’t find in Spain. It is half a mile away from Torquay which you could either reach by bus or a 30 minute walk from the train station. Cockington is a beautiful mix of picturesque well-ordered garden landscapes, open parkland, rural countryside and substantial woodland. Tucked in amongst this 450 acre country park are three pretty ornamental lakes, an historic Manor House with craft centre and studios, a chocolate box village, delightful thatched cottages and a quaint 11th Century church
Basically if you want to go back in time and really want to explore old England, you have to visit Cockington. And that is why the English Riviera is more than just the Spanish Riviera.
