A must see visit for everyone in London. From budget travellers, to Harry Potter fans to people who like graphic art. House of Minalima is a popup shop at 26 Greek Street in Soho, London. It is basically after the Palace Theatre, the theatre with currently the play of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
House of Minalima is a pop-up shop by Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, known as Minalima. They are the graphic artists behind things such as: the Daily Prophet, Harry’s invitation letter to Hogwarts and study books in the movies. They also did some graphic design for the latest movie, the Fantastic Beasts: and where to find them.
At the moment you will enter the building you will enter the shop first. If you are lucky, as I was last weekend, you can meet her Marphora or Eduardo. In my case Eduardo was in the shop. You can buy some copies of their unique designs here. Think about books such as Jungle Book and The Beauty and the Beast, but also poster copies of posters from the Harry Potter movie.
If you go upstairs, you will find on the first floor design copies from things out of The Fantastic Beasts movie. The staff is very friendly and are willing to tell you about everything. There is for example on one newspaper a small article about Harry Potter’s grandfather. This story explains where Harry’s money came from. I will not spoil this for you so that you can experience this on your own. There is also a reference to Minalima at Greek Street in one of the articles.
The second and the third floor is all about Harry Potter. You will find Daily Prophets, books, some original props from the movies and so on. And all this you can visit and watch for free. Properly you will spend some good 15 minutes in it, but those 15 minutes are well spent. It can get busy in the weekends, but still it is quite a hidden gem in London. For the moment the pop-up store will be there till the end of the year. Depending on the play and also on the hiring contract of the building, it depends if it will be also there next year or not. Let me know if you enjoyed your magical visit at Minalima.
