When you visit Salzburg you have the option to buy the Salzburg Card. A tourist card that gives you free access to loads of tourist attractions in Salzburg, discount to some performances and other attractions and free public transportation in the city. However is it really worth buying the card?
Last winter I visited Salzburg and we bought the Salzburg Card. Normally we never buy those tourist cards because it seems you have to rush through attractions to get your value for money and we don’t like to rush things.
However, in Salzburg we did it. We paid €32 per person. Thinking that this also includes public transport which costs normally €6 per person for a day unlimited public transport.
I can start splitting down the costs here for every attraction what we did on one day and what we saved in the end. But basically if you want to visit the two Mozart houses, you already pay the amount of the Salzburg Card.
In this way you could argue that besides visiting both Mozart houses. We also visited the ZOO, the cable car up the castle, an elevator up the viewing point at the Museum of Modern Art and a Christmas museum for ”free”. If we would have done this all without the Salzburg card, it would have cost us around €64.
So many attractions in Salzburg are worth visiting. But they are also a short visit. Such as Mozart’s Geburthaus where you will spend an hour. In this way it is definitely worth to get the Salzburg Card so you make optimal use of your money and time.
