If you are a regular globetrotter, packing is a necessary evil which you have to go through on a regular basis. And with restrictive cabin bag sizes, you may not have a whole lot of space to work with. Never fear – we are here to help! Packing like a pro doesn’t have to be overly complicated, but there are a few simple tips which can make all the difference. So, let’s talk through just a few of the best ones right here and now.
Start with a List
There is nothing more frustrating than arriving at your destination, only to find that you have left behind an essential item. You are much less likely to do this if you work from a list to start off with. Create a checklist and give it each item a tick as you put it in. If you start doing this a couple of days before you leave, you are more likely to remember things which you would have otherwise forgotten. Don’t forget to think about any specific activities which you will be doing that you need clothes for such as swimming or hiking.
Roll Rather Than Folding
Even though it looks nice and neat when you fold your clothes into a suitcase, this is the less efficient use of space compared to rolling them. Make sure that you roll up your clothes nice and tight for maximum effect. The other advantage is that the clothes are a lot less likely to get deep creases from being folded and having a lot of weight put on top of them.
Use Your Shoes
When you are very limited on space, you need to utilise every inch that you have available. And this means that you can’t leave your shoes unempty! You could easily stuff some smaller items inside such as socks or underwear in there.
Take the Electronic Option
If you are a big reader when you are on holiday, you can save yourself a lot of space, weight and probably money by downloading the books onto an e-reader or tablet. You should also take the time to download any apps which may be useful such as maps, phrasebooks, a torch etc. While you are at it, it is well worth photocopying any essential documents so that you always have them to-hand.
Cube Up Your Clothes
If you have never used packing cubes before, you may be surprised by just how well these work in saving space in your suitcase. They also help you to separate your different items of holiday wear and access things much more easily and quickly. You may well find them to be revolutionary!
Ziplock Bags
Loose items can be extremely frustrating when they are jumbling around in your suitcase. And the last thing that you need is a shower gel blowout. So, investing in a few ziplock bags can help you out in significantly in this regard. You can also keep your different electronics to stop wires from getting tangled up.
Take these tips on board and you should find that packing is a much more simple task and you will have more space that you had initially thought!
