Because it’s well known for its rain, England often gets neglected by those looking for a vacation. However, whilst it lacks the heat that attracts tourists to some of the world’s more exotic destinations, the UK more than delivers on sightseeing. It’s a culturally rich place, both historically and in terms of its modern influences on the world. If you’re looking for a reason to visit this fantastic location then here’s what you should see and do if you explore England.
Take a rickshaw around London.
London is a megacity. It’s one of the largest and most culturally diverse places in the world. In other words, there’s a lot to see here. That leads to a lot of congestion. So, why not aim to get around in style when you do decide to take a form of transport? Rickshaws have experienced a surge in popularity as of late because it’s much easier to hail this old-fashioned form of transport than a modern taxi. It might be slower than modern transport, but that really allows you the opportunity to take in the sights of London. You want to be able to experience Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament, and other iconic sights in style.
Make sure you check out the modern skyline of the city too; the Shard is a spectacular piece of architecture that soars above all other buildings. It’s the tallest building in Europe. If you truly want to ensure you’re prepared for such a trip then you might want to do some research on a backpacking website. That’ll ensure you’re prepared in terms of the things you’ll need to pack for such a trip too. London is a huge and overwhelming place. That makes it exciting to explore, but you need to be prepared.
Experience both historic and modern culture in Manchester.
Of course, there’s more to England than London. If you head further north then you’ll reach Manchester, which is often viewed as England’s second city. In some ways, it’s even better than London. Culturally, it has a history that’s as fascinating as the capital’s story; it’s the home of the industrial revolution, and you can learn all about that at the Museum of Science and Industry. It’s growing at a hugely accelerated rate at the moment (faster than London and many other cities in Europe). Huge skyscrapers are soaring into the sky, and the city is hosting events which are giving Manchester a name that’s internationally known. Its Pride parades are huge international events, and it has some of the best live music in the world (this is the city that produced bands such as Oasis and The Smiths). Check out venues such as YES for great live performances.
Explore the Lake District.
If you’re looking for some of the iconic rolling hills for which England is famous then you definitely need to explore the Lake District. It might be one of the most beautiful national parks that this country (or any country) has to offer. Above is a shot of Derwentwater in Cumbria, but that stunning landscape is just one small fragment of everything the Lake District has to offer. Make sure you check out Windermere. Not only does it offer a serene and ethereal lake that draws many boating enthusiasts, but it offers a pleasant and quaint little town set in the heart of the scenic countryside.
