We continue my vlog series from Sri Lanka. This is part 3, which will cover Sigiriya, the botanical garden and street food. For future videos I have changed my microphone so hopefully the audio will be better when I will do my vlogs from China.
Sigiriya
Sigiriya is sometimes better known as Lions Rock. While from a distance it doesn’t look like a Lion’s Rock it definitely has some Lion characteristics when you climb the rock itself. Just before you make it to to the top with the old palace ruins there are two big lion feet positioned in front of the stairs.
The fort and palace was build by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE). During his reign he was able to survive because of the perfect location of this fort. Unfortunately after his death the place was abandoned. Before it became open for the public nowadays it was also used as a monastery.
While Sigiriya will give you the history. It is also an expensive experience. Entrance to the side, the rock and the museum is $30,-. If you aren’t interested in seeing the remainders of the palace you could consider to climb Pidurangala rock which costs you only $3,10. The view and the climb is way better than what you will get from Sigiriya rock.
Back to Kandy
On our way back to Kandy, our driver gave us some cashew nuts. But not in the way you will normally find it in the supermarket. We got, what I think, the root part of the cashew nut. They slice it in pieces and will put some salt and pepper spice mix over it. It tastes pretty good, but be careful with eating it, the stains are almost impossible to clean from your shirt.
Botanical Garden
The botanical garden in Kandy is lovely and we made a brilliant choice in choosing this rather then Dambulla temple. We were done with temples for now because we have already visited a temple the last two days. Even though we had a bit of rain, it was good to enjoy the flowers and trees in this immense garden.
Finally
We ended our day with some street food around the station. Always a good experience to just walk around and buy some random food. I hope you like those kind of video items. Don’t forget to check out part 1 and part 2.
